577 – Dorms

The 577–Dorms project is a residential development located in Beirut, within a dense and diverse urban fabric characterized by a wide variety of building typologies. This contextual richness allows for the integration of multiple architectural languages while maintaining coherence with the surrounding cityscape.

The building is conceived as a foyer composed of one-room apartments, responding directly to the growing demand generated by nearby universities, business establishments, and professional institutions. The project addresses the needs of students and young professionals by providing compact, functional living units within an accessible urban environment.

Architecturally, the design draws from an analytical reading of existing urban structures, both in plan and façade composition. The building is articulated through three distinct volumes unified by a central vertical circulation core. While the blocks vary in height, proportion, form, and color, they share a consistent architectural language that ensures visual unity and integration with the street façade and the public character of the neighborhood.

The dynamic composition of volumes, combined with the strategic use of louvers on glazed façades, introduces depth, rhythm, and visual interest. These elements not only animate the exterior but also enhance interior comfort by regulating light, privacy, and ventilation, reflecting the living experience within the apartments.

In response to the diminishing presence of green spaces in the surrounding urban context, the project adopts a vertical approach to landscaping. Green elements are integrated into the façades, transforming them into active, living surfaces that contribute to environmental quality and enrich both the building and its immediate surroundings.

The functional organization of the building is distributed as follows:

  • Two Basement Levels: Parking and service areas

  • Ground Floor: Entrance and structural pilotis

  • First to Fourth Floors: Seven residential units per floor

  • Fifth Floor: Four residential units with a shared terrace

  • Sixth Floor: Four residential units

In conclusion, 577–Dorms represents a contemporary urban housing model that responds effectively to density, functionality, and environmental challenges. Through volumetric articulation, façade dynamism, and vertical greenery, the project contributes positively to Beirut’s evolving residential architecture while addressing the needs of modern urban living.
